>Sen. Coburn (R-OK)

>After reading this GQ article, I have a new respect for Tom Coburn. While I don’t agree with his politics, he is at least not looking to his job as a Senator for personal gain, and appears to have the country’s long-term fiscal health in mind.

    >Agreed. Surprising or just disappointing that this is the 1st time I have heard of him. Instead all we hear in the news is all the typical politics.

  2. Michael says:

    >We hear about him all the time in Washington, DC. Besides the news being filled with the ins and outs of national politics, he’s personally responsible for withholding a $1.5 billion dollar plan to improve the Washington Metro system by providing dedicated funding. He uses his privilege as a Senator to withhold unanimous consent for certain bills to be included in the day’s debate calendar.

  3. Geoff says:

    >What has gotten a bee in his bonnet that he is against the Metro system?

  4. Michael says:

    >He’s not officially against the metro system, he’s against federal funding that’s in addition to the normal formula funding. He calls it an earmark and says that if metro needs more funding, then the local governments should figure out how to get it.
