He proposes massive simplification of the income tax code, and a VAT (value added tax) tied to the growth in health care costs.

Haven’t read it yet, need to get my beer.

Beer in hand. It’s a “Shock Top”, one of the many spiced belgian-style white ales out there. This one’s by Anheuser-Busch, but others are Leinenkugel or Magic Hat Number 9. It’s my favorite beer style for now until I get tired of it and go to super hoppy IPAs. But the blog isn’t about beer, it’s about tax for today.

It seems unlikely that Congress will simply let the tax cuts expire as scheduled. For one thing, the potential behavioral responses to the one-year estate tax holiday are too ghoulish to contemplate.
